DRAMA: The Gingerbread Man

Script:

Narrator: Once upon a time, an old man and an old woman lived in a cottage. They were very hungry.

Woman: I will make a gingerbread man.

Old man: Yum! I love gingerbread!

Narrator: They measured and poured. They stirred, mixed and rolled. The woman cut out a big gingerbread man.

Woman: He has two eyes and a little nose.

Old man: He has a happy mouth.

Narrator: The woman put the gingerbread man in the oven to cook. Soon there was a delicious smell.

Old Man: Yum!

Woman: The gingerbread man is cooked.

Narrator: When the woman opened the oven door, the gingerbread man jumped out and ran away.

Old Man: Stop! Stop! We are hungry!

Woman: Stop! Stop! We love gingerbread!

Narrator: So, the man and the woman ran after the gingerbread man, but he laughed and ran faster.

Gingerbread Man: Run, run, as fast as you can. You can’t catch me – I’m the gingerbread man.

Narrator: He ran and ran, past a dog and on through town.

Dog: Stop! Stop! I love gingerbread!

Narrator: So, the man, the woman and the dog ran after the gingerbread man, but he laughed and ran faster.

Gingerbread Man: Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me – I’m the gingerbread man.

Narrator: He ran and ran, past a pig and up a hill.

Pig: Stop! Stop! I love gingerbread!

Narrator: So, the man, the woman, the dog and the pig ran after the gingerbread man, but he laughed and ran faster.

Gingerbread Man: Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me – I’m the gingerbread man.

Narrator: He ran and ran, past a horse and a cow on a farm.

Cow: Stop! Stop!

Horse: We love gingerbread!

Narrator: So, the man, the woman, the dog, the pig, the cow and the horse ran after the gingerbread man, but he laughed and ran faster.

Gingerbread Man: Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me – I’m the gingerbread man.

Narrator: The gingerbread man ran down the hill, and everyone ran after him. He ran and ran and ran.

Narrator: The gingerbread man came to a river. He stopped.

Gingerbread Man: What can I do? There is no bridge!

Narrator: Then, a fox appeared from behind a tree.

Fox: I will help you little gingerbread man. Climb on my back and I will swim across the river.

Narrator: The gingerbread man climbed on the fox’s back. The fox jumped into the water. But, soon …

Gingerbread Man: Help! My feet are getting wet!

Fox: Climb up on my head and you will keep dry.

Narrator: The gingerbread man climbed on the fox’s head.

Gingerbread Man: Help! My feet are getting wet!

Fox: Climb on my nose and you will keep dry.

Gingerbread Man: Thank you!

Narrator: The gingerbread climbed onto the fox’s nose. The fox tossed the gingerbread man into the air and into his mouth!

Fox: Thank you!

Narrator: And he ate the gingerbread man.

Fox: Yum! I love gingerbread, too!
