DRAMA: Caring for the Environment
Script:
In the playground. Student 3 drops an empty bottle on the ground.
Student 2: Hey you, why are you making such a mess?
Student 3: Who cares? The cleaners will pick it up!
Student 4: Don’t be lazy! It might blow away, and there won’t always be cleaners to pick up your rubbish!
Student 5: There are bins everywhere.
Student 3: Ok, ok – I’ll put it in the bin.
Student 6: Woah, woah, woah… Hang on a minute. What is your bottle made from?
Student 3: Plastic.
Student 6: You can re-use it or recycle it.
Student 4: What do you mean by ‘re-use’ or ‘recycle’?
Student 6: You can use it a few more times or put it in the recycle bin.
Student 2: Recycling means that it will be turned into a new bottle again!
Student 5: OR, it would be better to just reduce plastic in the first place! Use a cup instead.
Student 2: Yes, we can reduce, re-use and recycle!
Everyone: Reduce, reuse and recycle!
In the home. Student 3 is surrounded by appliances, games, fans, air-con, lamps, TV etc… all running.
Student 3: (sitting down) Finally! Some rest!
Friends enter
Student 7: Woah, woah, woah! Hang on a minute, why are you using so much power?
Student 8: TV, fan, lights, air-con, music, games – you are not using most of these things.
Student 3: (scared) Wait, how did you get in my home?!
Student 9: You should turn off things when not using them.
Student 3: Who cares? It doesn’t matter.
Student 10: Where do you think power comes from?
Student 3: The plug!
Student 7: Yes, but it starts in a power station, which burns dirty, smoky coal to make electricity.
Student 8: You should cut down, and only use what you need.
Student 9: Then there will be less pollution and the air will be cleaner.
Student 3: Ah, I see! (turns off some of his things)
Student 3 is in a shop.
Student 3: Ah, time to pay for my shopping…
Student 10: Woah, woah, woah! Hang on a minute. You can reduce plastic here too!
Student 3: Agh! Stop following me! How can I reduce plastic here?
Student 9: It’s easy… Just bring your own bag!
Student 1 – So remember everyone, we can help make our world a cleaner place.
Student 11 – Think about our future and remember to reduce, reuse and recycle your plastic, metal and paper.
Student 1 – …and only use what you need!
Everyone: If we all do these simple little things, we will have a happier, cleaner, greener world!
